“Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell ro-.”Ok, that’s getting old. As Christmas is just around the corner, people seem to be in the holiday spirit and so are the radios. In fact, some of the radios have been in the Christmas music spirit scene before Thanksgiving. But let’s face it, some songs are starting to bore us. I mean who hasn’t heard “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and “Frosty the Snowman” hundreds of times? Here are some modern Christmas songs you’re sure to love.

1. “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson

“Presents, what a beautiful sight. Don’t mean a thing if you ain’t holding me tight. You’re all that I need Underneath the tree.”

The beat is catchy, the song beautiful, “Underneath the Tree” is a song by Kelly Clarkson from her sixth album and also her first Christmas one. This song came out in 2013. The song is about how she doesn’t want to be alone for Christmas and how it doesn’t mean anything if who she loves isn’t there. Along with the beautiful message this song has wonderful vocals which are the reason why this song is placed number one, (also because I listen to this song all year and even my parents aren’t annoyed by it yet).

2. “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” by Lindsey Stirling, sung by Sabrina Carpenter

“You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus. You’re as charming as an eel Mr. Grinch. You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel.”

There are many versions of Mr.Grinch, but none can surpass Sabrina Carpenter singing with Lindsey Stirling dancing and playing her violin. The song starts off with just Lindsey playing her violin and dancing in what looks to be a bar. We are then transported to Sabrina who is dressed to look like a million bucks. Seriously whoever did the costumes deserves an award. Through the song, Sabrina takes a break from singing and you can focus on just how amazing Lisndey’s playing is. I question anyone who would call her untalented after hearing these songs play.

3. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey

“I don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents. Underneath the Christmas tree. I just want you for my own. More than you could ever know. Make my wish come true oh. All I want for Christmas is you.”

To be fair, I think most people have already heard “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, but I really don’t think you could ever get bored of this song. Just like many other songs on this list, she is singing about choosing love over presents for Christmas and has a very catchy tune.

4. “Last Christmas” by Taylor Swift

“Last Christmas I gave you my heart But the very next day, you gave it away This year, to save me from tears I’ll give it to someone special.”

“Last Christmas” has been sung by many singers, but Taylor Swift puts her own little twist on it. She Makes it a little more country. It’s a song you can’t help but stand up and sing to. A great cheerful message from any lonely person out there.

5. “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande

“Santa tell me if you’re really there Don’t make me fall in love again If he won’t be here next year.”

“Santa Tell Me” was sung by Ariana Grande in 2014. This song is about how Ariana is asking Santa to help her find someone to love that she’ll have next year too. This song has a catchy beat and amazing vocals. Anyone who’s into pop is sure to love this song with its sweet, yet somewhat classic pop sound. Though, that’s not surprising with Ariana singing. This song is something you can snap your fingers to and dance around your room.

There are so many songs worth mentioning, but these are some of my favorites.  Even in summer, you may catch me dancing to them because they are just that good. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
