As we all know, trends are always changing. Social media and public figures both play a major role in influencing what trends are popular. In 2019, a lot of fashion from the 60s through the 90s are returning. These are ten popular trends that have made a comeback in 2019.

  1. Fanny Packs

Though a previously shunned fashion item, fanny packs are coming back in style. Major designer brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel have come out with many fashionable fanny packs. The fashion industry has also renamed this item to the cooler name, “belt bag”. Having a hands free bag is not only practical but also cute. If worn with the right outfit, you won’t look like a mother of three at Cedar Point.

  1. Chokers

This fashion trend from the 90s is back. In the 19th century, the only people who wore them were rich and famous. Since that’s not the case anymore, chokers have evolved. They began as just black plastic, but throughout the years, they have expanded to a large variety of options. This large variety includes silver, gold, studded, lace, shell chokers, and many more. Sometimes long necklaces distract from the outfit, rather than add to the outfit. Personally, I like all my necklaces tight like chokers.

  1. Corsets

Corsets became popular in the mid to late 19th century. During this time, they were worn underneath clothing, and were said to “beautify” women. Nowadays, it’s trendy to wear corsets over clothing, allowing women to look “snatched.” Major designers like Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana have all sent models down the runway with this controversial trend. Marie Antoinette actually fainted from having her corset laced up too tight. In my opinion, corset-style tops are cute and feminine.

  1. Hair Clips

These cute accessories from the 90s are being worn by celebrities and other fashion icons, making them popular again. Prada, Gucci and Versace have been incorporating these barrettes into their fashion shows. Not only are they cheap and stylish, but they’re also useful to keep hair out of your face. There are so many options; big, extravagant barrettes, or small, simple clips. From my perspective, clips are a girly accessory that you can add to any outfit for a fun twist.

  1. Wide Leg Pants

Bell Bottoms were originally popular in the 60s, cargo pants and the iconic mom jeans were originally popular in the 90s. Today’s fashion icons have redefined the wide leg fashion trend by pairing them with tighter tops, creating a more flattering look. I love big pants like these because they’re comfortable, and you can eat anything you want without a button popping off. Popular designers like Off-White, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen have come out with fashionable wide-leg pants since they have recently come back into style.

  1. Round Glasses

Originally popular in the 70s, round glasses and sunglasses are back in style. Round frames give any outfit a retro vibe. I believe round glasses are superior because they are flattering on almost any face shape. Celebrities are part of the reason why this trend is making a comeback. John Lennon was known for his round glasses, which were sold at an auction for $2 Million.

  1. Neon

Neon has made a comeback, thanks to the help of the Kardashians. This resurrecting 80s trend has become very popular, especially in the spring and summer. Major designer brands like Balenciaga have come out with neon pink, green and yellow bags this season. In my opinion, wearing neon accessories is a great way to add a pop of color to any simple outfit.

  1. Faux Fur

These stylish jackets are extremely cozy, especially for the winter months. In the 80s and 90s, wearing real fur was frowned upon. Nowadays, the majority of fur you see on coats is faux fur. Fendi sent mink coats down the runway, causing controversy. Due to environmental concerns, lots of people are against real and fake fur. For a jacket with real fur, animal cruelty is an issue, and so is the extinction of some animals. For a jacket with fake fur, the factories rely on harmful chemicals and cheap labor to produce these jackets at a reasonable cost. Despite the controversy, this trend has still made a comeback in 2019.`

  1. Animal Print

Animal prints are no stranger to the spotlight, but nowadays in fashion, it seems like they are the star of the show. Designer brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Saint Laurent and Gucci have been marketing animal print products. Overall, animal print clothing and accessories are a staple for any wardrobe. Animal prints such as cheetah and snakeskin are in style, but cow print and zebra stripes are earning their spot in today’s fashion world too. Animal print is a timeless trend and in my opinion, never goes out of style.

  1. Scrunchies

Originally popular in the 80s, this hair accessory is back in style. Scrunchies are not only cute, but they also save your hair from falling out, unlike a regular hairband. Lots of celebrities have been wearing scrunchies, but a true Scrunchie Enthusiast contributing to the comeback is Emma Chamberlain. She’s a Youtuber who has gotten very popular in the past few years. Chamberlain even has her own clothing line called “High Key,” which markets scrunchies. “VSCO girls” are also a major buyer of scrunchies. Personally, I think scrunchies are great because they are a fun way of keeping your hair out of your face and look cute as an accessory on your wrist.

To wrap up, these ten trends are important in the fashion world right now. Although these trends are popular right now, they’re always changing. Soon enough juicy sweatsuits will be back in style.
