Courier Staff earns high marks at OSMA awards banquet
April 2, 2016
Solon High School’s Courier staff accomplished two significant firsts at the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) awards banquet at Kent State University on April 1, 2016.
The staff earned a first place ranking for its print newspaper and, in its first year publishing online, earned a second place ranking for its website. Prior to this year’s competition, the staff landed second place rankings for its print paper four years consecutively.
Individual success is also recognized at the OSMA awards banquet. Prior to the event, student journalists from all over Ohio enter their pieces into any of the 54 competition categories available. Categories range from writing to photography to broadcast to design and include yearbook entries as well. These entries are judged by professional journalists from around the state. Work that meets or exceeds the expectations of the judges can earn a ranking of Honorable Mention, Excellence or Superior.
Along with team success, individuals from the Courier staff combined to earn 21 individuals awards.
