SHS clubs host fashion show

Solon High School’s Fashion Club–along with its newly formed Modeling Club–transformed the SHS Lecture Hall into a runway for its first Spring and Prom Fashion show on Friday, April 28. The show featured both casual and formal looks from UpScaleIT, Maurice´s, GAP, NEXT, American Commodore Tuxedo, David’s Bridal and Winds Of Change.
Modeling Club President and Fashion Club Officer Pamela Dagnino started Modeling Club this fall and decided to host a fashion show to offer more opportunities to SHS students interested in modeling.
“We thought that it would be a great idea to [expand] the club, practice posing and walking for the models, but most importantly to help the Ronald McDonald House,” she said.
The fashion show is the newest addition to the Fashion and Modeling Club’s established events.
“The clubs have various activities including the designing and creating of clothing,” Dagnino said. “The modeling club focuses on the creation of models. During the year we host workout routines, photoshoots and walking and posing sessions.”
The students involved in the event decided that all of the ticket proceeds and intermission bake sale profits would go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland.
“The Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland really stood out since it supports families whose children receive treatment at area medical centers by providing a home-like environment and essential resources and services,” Dagnino said. “We decided to choose the Ronald McDonald house since it is a Cleveland foundation and it has many touching stories, but particularly Jasmine’s Story.”
While visiting family in Cleveland from Colorado, Jasmine was born 11 weeks premature with a heart condition that required surgery. Due to her premature birth Jasmine’s esophagus and trachea were not fully formed or connected properly. Through a grueling eight months of continuous hospital stays far from home, the Ronald McDonald House provided Jasmine’s parents with the support they needed to bring Jasmine home to Colorado healthy.
Along with supporting a charity, both clubs wanted to enrich the SHS community.
“I really hope that the attendees have a really good experience, learn a little bit of how a runway works and enjoy watching the ultimate spring and prom looks,” Dagnino said. “I also hope it helps them make wise wardrobe decisions now and in the future. And with the SHS Fashion Show, there’s no better time to find out how to watch a fashion show to the max and pick up killer style tips.”
The show also aimed to give SHS’s aspiring models an opportunity to practice and refine their skills and have a authentic stage experience.
“I [was] definitely nervous about falling or forgetting to count my steps,” said model and Modeling Club Public Relations Officer Isabella Achim. “I really want everything to look coordinated and I sure don’t want to be the one to ruin that.”
Senior Mariah Jones attended the fashion show just a week before her senior prom.
“I thought the show was awesome,” Jones said. “Everyone did a great job. It was very well put together and very organized.”
Dagnino hopes that in the coming years the fashion show will become an SHS tradition and expand to other times of the year, giving more opportunities for future models to gain new skills and refine skills they already have. She also hopes that with new members the club will expand to bigger and better runways.
