Shopping for Valentine’s Day gifts–not as painful as you think
February is finally here, and for most of us that means the pressure, stress and dread of Valentine’s Day has just begun.
Whether you’re single or taken, Valentine’s Day is no walk in the park. For singles, it’s not the easiest task to dodge the massive amounts of PDA, rom-com marathons and gushy couple Instagram posts. The only thing singles can take solace in is the discounted chocolate Feb. 15. For couples, the overpriced flowers and crowded restaurant on Feb. 14 are the least of your concern. While you’re sure your valentine will love anything you buy them, it’s still hard not to care about the look on their face when they see your gift.
Sure, you could go with a box of chocolate or a dozen roses, but a generic gift won’t show your sweetheart how sweet they truly are. A teddy bear would suffice, but unless it’s six feet tall, it won’t shock anyone. If you’re still a sucker for traditional gifts, maybe try one with a twist, such as chocolate roses or a teddy bear puzzle you can make with your significant other.
While necklaces and rings are always a go-to for your lovely lady, no one wants to see another heart shaped piece of jewelry. While you can blow $100 on some ordinary accessory, I suggest you take the personalization route. Whether it’s a necklace with her name or a charm bracelet with a combination of cute, meaningful charms, your girl will feel extra special on V-Day.
Guys also deserve some gift-receiving fun. Merchandise from his favorite sports team or some video games aren’t a bad idea, but aren’t the most personal, romantic gifts to give. Nice watches are thoughtful, but impossible to buy without breaking the bank. Try buying a bundle of his favorite candy and a bottle with capsules filled with reasons on why he’s so special to you.
Whether it’s a gift for your boyfriend, girlfriend or datefriend, there’s always a crafty gift out there waiting to be put together. Why not buy a pair of his favorite shoes with a punny message on the box? Or maybe some jewelry, heartfelt gifts and pictures tied to balloons for her? Even a cut out map of special places framed will mean more to your other half than a simple gift.
In the end, no matter what gift you give or receive this holiday, just remember it’s the thought that counts. Whether you’re buying a gift for your someone special, or just for your friends or parents, find a gift they will enjoy. Valentine’s Day will only be as special as you make it, and if it’s for the right person, you should have no problem making the perfect day for you and your date. While snuggling with your sweetie these next two weeks, determine what gift will suit them best. This day is meant to celebrate the connection you have with your partner, so don’t forget to make the event as special as can be, because I guarantee your significant other is worth all the hassle.
