Solon Lady Comets 2022 season updates
October 7, 2022
The Lady Comets soccer team is back and starting their 2022 season with a record of 7-5-1.The team has undergone many changes that have made this year different than the previous.
After losing 9 seniors, the team had shifted and a new line-up was put in place for this 2022 season. With a newer group of girls, the season would inevitably be different. Senior and Captain Izzy Robinson gives insight into the season so far.
“The season is going pretty good, considering the amount of injured players we have had and sickness over the course of the season so far,” Robinson said.
Senior Lanie Wasosky explains how the size of the team has impacted their placements within the team and how closely they are being evaluated.
“Compared to the past we have a very small team, which means JV and Varsity sports are limited and the rosters were very fluid,” Wasosky said. “At one point, during the season we had a [reevaluation] to prove that we earned a varsity position which had never been done in the past.”
Robinson provides more in depth information about this re-evaluation mid-season.
“My coach decided another round of tryouts would be a ‘clean slate’ for everyone to prove they deserve a spot on varsity and if they should start or not,” Robinson said. “I had mixed feelings about the tryouts, I always tried to put my best effort into soccer and I tried to do that again during these second round of tryouts.”
Robinson also explains how she trusts the coaches and believes that everything worked out for the better.
“Compared to my past three years, our team is very much a ‘family’ now and are all very close,” Robinson said. “The chemistry is really strong, which is a big change from last year and previous years as well. We started doing a lot of things together outside of just soccer, and having more of a unified group has felt really good.”
JV coach Karen Davidoff expresses her goals and hopes for the rest of the season.
“I look forward to having the girls bring more energy to practice, continue to demonstrate that energy in games, and achieve an overall winning record for our season,” Davidoff said.
