Q: Why do you believe the Jewish Culture Club is important for Jewish students at Solon High School?
A: There are a lot of Jewish students at Solon High School and not a lot of opportunities.
Q: What opportunities does Jewish Culture Club provide?
A: I would say the Jewish Culture Club provides a place for Jewish students to kind of get together and express their Judaism and celebrate their Judaism at a public school. Like, I know a lot of schools, especially Jewish day schools and Jewish high schools and even just private schools, they have a place for that. They revolve around that. But I think a lot of people at Solon have Jewish friends at Solon and that’s it. It’s their only outlet to express their Judaism. I’m really glad that Jewish Culture Club can provide that. Especially for students who don’t have time to go to temple and don’t have time to do BBYO, it’s a really good place for them to be Jewish and just do fun things with their Judaism.
Q: How many people show up to the meetings?
A: [Around] 30 people showed up when we had meetings. That’s why I feel like there is a high demand for this club. We want to make more regular meetings, so we can all get to know each other.
Q: How do you plan on increasing the attendance at meetings?
A: We just made a new Instagram and are going to post on that. We also have already started to plan our first meeting and we plan on promoting the club and getting people to sign up at the club fair.
Q: What do you guys discuss at the meetings?
A: We discuss Jewish culture and holidays and eat Jewish foods while playing games.
Q: Are there any last things you want to add?
A: Come to Jewish Culture Club. Jewish or not, come to Jewish Culture Club, there’s food and fun. It is a fun club. I would say when I first came to high school I signed up for a million clubs, and this is the only one I stuck with because it’s so much fun.
