Mr. Fuentes, one of the newest members to the Solon staff this year, said he is thrilled about sharing the honors with Mr. Northrup to teach AP World History and be a part of the US History team.
Q: What made you want to join Solon?
A: I’m actually from the area. I grew up in Breckville. I was driving an hour and fifteen minutes to and from my old job and so when the opportunity arrived, I saw that there was a position I applied, hoping for the best and now we’re here
Q: Why did you want to become a teacher?
A: I got a history major. I thought I wanted to work at an archive. It wasn’t for me. I immediately went and enrolled in education courses. I needed to be interacting with people versus being in the dark.
Q: How are you liking Solon so far?
A: So far so good. I think it’s the best of both worlds, something new and that I’m doing something that’s the same. Like, I’ve taught US History for numerous years versus AP. I’m teaching AP World now, so that’s like a newer thing for me to understand concepts and stuff like that.
Q: What plans do you have for US History and AP World?
A: My biggest thing is I like everything digital. I have interactive notebooks I like to do vs having different papers I put everything in one collective unit. So within the interactive notebook, you usually have the slide decks in there and your essential questions are in there, any activities are in there. Any activities that would be your important stuff to have for that unit.
Q: What do you want to get out of teaching?
A: I think education can be for everybody. I think that’s always like the overarching “Oh I’m not a good enough teacher, I’m not a good enough student.” I think that any variation of that is possible. A curriculum that fits everybody.
