Dreamwork’s “Trolls Band Together” movie falls apart

Dreamworks “Trolls Band Together” movie falls apart

“Trolls Band Together” is the third Trolls movie of the series and came out on Nov. 17, 2023. I saw it the day it came out, so I had no clue what it would be like. I didn’t even watch the trailer. I had a few expectations because of the other Trolls movies, but I didn’t remember much of those besides cute characters and bright colors.

“Trolls Band Together” is about Poppy (Anna Kendrick) finding out that Branch (Justin Timberlake), her boyfriend, was in a boy band called BroZone. BroZone was made up of five brothers, John Dory (Eric André), Floyd (Troye Sivan), Clay (Kid Cudi), Spruce (Daveed Diggs) and Branch.

Then Poppy and Branch had to attend Poppy’s best friend’s wedding. This confused me because I didn’t understand how old these characters were supposed to be. During the wedding, Branch’s brother, John Dory, tells him that their other brother, Floyd, was kidnapped by two singers, Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells), who were stealing his talent by trapping him in a diamond perfume bottle.

The only way to get him out was with something called a perfect family harmony, basically an ideal melody with all the brothers together. Poppy watched Branch get along with all of his brothers, and she conscientiously watched and talked about wanting a sister. As the movie goes on I realized I had predicted all of this in the beginning.

I believe that this movie was really just crazy.

I know this is a kid’s movie and that they make all the Trolls movies seem a little wild, but I think this one especially. The movie has to be a little predictable because it is for kids to understand, but I felt like it was a bit cluttered. I felt there were a lot of random parts other than the main plot added into the movie but not really expanded on. The prior movies, being ones I liked, I think made me biased.

Throughout the whole movie, there were so many adult innuendos. It felt like every scene had multiple. I understand and enjoy some of them in kids movies because they add something for adults and make the experience just overall better. But in this movie, it felt like overkill. I went to this movie with a bunch of nine and 10-year-olds, and some of them actually understood what the little hints were referring to. I think that was probably the main reason why I didn’t love this movie– I was hoping for a cute little Trolls movie.

Yet, the graphics for all Trolls movies have always been good to me– they make the characters look adorable. They use vibrant colors and dreamy-looking settings to catch kids’ and adults’ attention. They catch mine.
I also like that Trolls movies are musicals. In “Trolls Band Together” the whole movie is about BroZone the band so all the actors are talented singers as well. Such as Kid Cudi, Justin Timberlake, and Troye Sivan

I do believe that Trolls Band Together is a cute movie, but I think the Trolls movie series should stop here. They make predictable, yet confusing movies somehow, and this one didn’t hit like the rest of them for me.
