Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”: The story of love and loss

Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”: The story of love and loss

American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Benson Boone released his newest single “Beautiful Things” on Jan. 18, 2024. The song accumulated 5 million streams in the U.S. in just one night.

The 21 year old gained fame in 2021 on the social media platform TikTok. Boone then went on “American Idol,” making it to the Top 24 before dropping out to reconsider his musical career. Following his appearance on the hit show, Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds reached out and offered Boone to come work with him in Las Vegas. This gave him a push to start releasing his own music. Now, Boone has released 29 songs and two Extended Plays.

“Beautiful Things” is a beautifully written yet devastating love song about the fears that come with having someone you care about so much. From the lyrics to the beat, Boone created a musical masterpiece.

From the start of the song, we can quickly notice that “Beautiful Things” isn’t just some boring old love song we have all heard before. Instead, it encapsulates the feelings of inconsistency that life brings us. The song truly captures all the “what if’s?” that run through our mind when we care about someone. In my opinion, this makes the song so much more refreshing. We hear about how great a relationship makes an artist feel every other week. What we don’t hear a lot about, is the thought process when you love someone so deeply.

The song starts off with, “All this pain /I wonder if I’ll ever find my way /I wonder if my life could really change, at all.” The lyrics contain a much deeper explanation of what he feels but the flow of the song keeps it light.

In the main chorus of the song, Boone includes lyrics where he is pleading “I want you, I need you, oh God/ Don’t take /Thеse beautiful things that I’ve got.” The meaningful lyrics help us understand and feel for Boone. The song overall has very strong, impactful and possibly relatable lyrics that can make the audience feel seen when it comes to how they personally feel.

Boone is a skillful storyteller and is able to share the story of love and the fears that come with it in this new hit.

Boone has a beautiful voice and a strong vocal range that makes the song feel almost magical. Boone’s vocals add on to the feel of this song by making him sound like he is pleading instead of just singing. The audience can truly sense the desperation in his voice because of how deeply he loves the girl.

Instrumental wise, “Beautiful Things” is unlike most of Boone’s prior music. Many of his previous songs were more heavily piano based, but this one has a very prominent guitar sound in the background. The song has noticeable and beautiful riffs throughout but also still has a decent amount of piano. I really liked the guitar aspect of this song, and I think it made it more upbeat and therefore more unique.

Despite being a new artist, Boone was able to create an impactful piece of music that fans are able to resonate with.

I’m excited for him and hope he’s able to do even more with with his God given talent. I’m curious as to who he’s reaching with it besides the US and the UK, the masses and their ages, their backgrounds. Congratulations BB! You are amazing! You are loved! ~Best Wishes~ 💜✝️🛐💜
