Solon High School’s Annual Comets for a Cure Dunk Tank is approaching. The dunk tank is a fundraiser taken place in the Commons parking lot to raise money for Comets for a Cure, an organization that raises awareness for breast cancer. It is hosted by SADD’s Club Advisor Paula Telepak and Presidents Ella Nasca and Alyssa Jerome to give students a fun break from their school day while raising money for breast cancer awareness.
Telepak explains further below.
Q: Why do you think the dunk tank is important to Solon?
A: Well, I think it’s important to the school because it is a tradition, and I think it’s one of the few events that we have that brings all of the students and staff together for a cause.
Q: What impact do you think SADD and the dunk tank have?
A: I think it’s something that everyone looks forward to participating in together, and I think it does bring awareness to breast cancer and breast cancer awareness.
Q: Is there a donation goal for this year?
A: We don’t have a specific monetary goal, but I would like to be able to donate $3,000-$4,000.
Q: Are there any other causes SADD raises awareness for?
A: Yeah, we do Red Ribbon Week in October to bring awareness to saying no to doing drugs, and we also do a student staff basketball game in the wintertime. The money that we raise for that we donate to the after prom so that the seniors have a safe and fun place to go to after prom [so that it] is drug and alcohol-free.
