As we enter the late autumn season, it is time for fall get-togethers and the smell of cinnamon to fill the air. If you need a sweet treat for a friendsgiving celebration, a dessert to steal the show during Thanksgiving dinner or just a nice baked good to enjoy for yourself, The SHS Courier has you covered. Below are five delicious recipes to try.
1. Chai Brownies – Sturbridge Bakery
Something that is (usually) severely lacking from many fall desserts is chocolate. This recipe from Sturbridge Bakery makes sure to address these concerns, with a flavor profile similar to Mexican hot chocolate. If you want to add something to upgrade your typical brownie batch, these chai brownies truly are phenomenal. They have a perfect blend of chai spices with cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. Fudgy and loaded with flavor, this brownie is a perfect autumnal treat next to a cup of apple cider.
2. Brown Butter & Maple Chewy Pumpkin Cookies – Butternut Bakery
With all the classic fall flavors–maple, pumpkin, cinnamon–these cookies are a perfect fall treat. If you’re a fan of quick, easy-make cookies, these are for you. The brown butter adds greatly to the nutty flavor in this recipe and combines perfectly with the chai spices. Dense and chewy–this cookie has it all. The brown sugar cinnamon coating adds an extra dash of cozy, fall flavor that this season is all about.
3. Baked Apple Cider Donuts – NYT Cooking
While donuts can be a bit intimidating, this recipe is easy and yields a delicious fall treat with minimal mess. You can also turn this into a muffin recipe if you don’t own a doughnut pan. These donuts remind me of being in an apple orchard, apple cider in hand on a chilly, October day. They taste and smell just like that too with all the warmth of chai spices added. They are a perfect, nostalgic fall treat with all of the tastiest autumn flavors you could imagine.
4. Pumpkin Blondies – NYT Cooking
A great brownie alternative if you don’t want chocolate but still want the fudgy texture is blondies–and these pumpkin blondies take the cake. While slightly more cakey than what I usually like in a blondie, this recipe has a perfect amount of sweetness aided by numerous different autumn flavors. I highly recommend adding nuts– my go-to is pecans– they help balance out the sweetness and add to the flavor profile. With pumpkin, butterscotch and white chocolate, this recipe makes you feel like you’re at a fall fair.
5. Coffee Cake – Sally’s Baking Addiction
While coffee cake is a classic desert, this version of the recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction is phenomenal. With sour cream and a brown sugar cinnamon crumb coating, this recipe is unique and especially delicious. It’s soft and light, with the vanilla icing on top emphasizing the flavor. No other coffee cake I’ve made has compared to this one. Perfect with a cup of tea or coffee, this cake will fit in perfectly with all of your fall celebrations. This recipe is also a base recipe for Sally’s other cakes that are a staple of later Winter holiday celebrations, if you want to try one out they are linked in the article above.
Happy baking.
