On my latest visit to 7 Brew, I had the opportunity to try four of the most popular drinks from what they just released: the Crème Brûlée Breve, the Candy Cane Mocha, the Brew Frost 7 Energy and Santa’s Cookie Mocha.
Crème Brûlée Breve
This beverage is a breve, meaning it’s made with espresso and half-and-half instead of regular milk. It includes cane sugar, toasted marshmallow and salted caramel flavoring. The drink tasted rich, almost like a caramelized dessert in a cup. The toasted marshmallow added a warm sweetness to it, and the salted caramel gave it depth. However, with the heavy dairy involved, after a few sips it started feeling thick, and that sweetness also built up quite rapidly. If you are into dessert-level drinks, you will most likely love this, but for me, this drink was just a bit too much. I’ll give this drink a 5/10.
Candy Cane Mocha
This drink is a peppermint and white chocolate flavored mocha topped with whipped cream. The first sip was very much like peppermint bark, where the chocolate added sweetness but not bitterness in the drink. I felt it mostly tasted of peppermint, but not sharp or toothpaste-like. It’s creamy, it’s cozy, and it does feel like a holiday drink. If you’re somebody who dislikes peppermint, then this may not be your cup of tea, but I enjoyed how all these flavors combined. After some time, however, it started to feel a little sweet. Overall, this drink was a 7/10 for me.
Holiday Punch 7 Brew Energy
This drink uses 7 Brew’s energy base (carbonated water, B Vitamins, taurine and caffeine), flavored with blue raspberry, coconut and vanilla. It was bright blue and looked refreshing. The blue raspberry hit instantly but was softened by the coconut and vanilla, which cut the sourness and made the drink more balanced than expected. It tasted like a melted tropical popsicle with an energy kick in it. Normally, I avoid energy drinks because they can be harsh, but this was smooth enough that I finished it pretty fast. If you want something fruity instead of creamy, this is the concoction for you. I’d rate this drink an 8.5/10.
Santa’s Cookie Mocha
This holiday potion is a mocha made with flavoring inspired by cookies, then topped with whipped cream and cinnamon sugar. It smelled just like fresh-baked cookies, which pretty much sold me right off. The first sip tasted like a sugar cookie dunked in hot chocolate with a finish that was cinnamon-spice and made it feel very festive but not heavy. It was sweet but not cloyingly so, and the aftertaste was all cookie. It reminded me of baking holiday cookies with my family every year. Santa’s Cookie Mocha was easily my favorite one of the bunch. I’d give this drink 9.5 out of 10.
My ranking, from highest to lowest, is as follows: Santa’s Cookie Mocha, Brew Frost 7 Energy, Candy Cane Mocha, and last but not least the Crème Brûlée Breve. Remember, these drinks are limited edition, so if you try any, be sure to let us know your thoughts.
