As the temperature declines, the desire for warm drinks increases. You may find yourself on the couch with a glass of hot chocolate, but what flavors should you be drinking? I purchased the Tilz Collection Hot Chocolate Gift Set. This fun set comes with 12 different flavors for customers to try, for those who want something new besides the regular chocolate flavor. I tried the original chocolate, hazelnut, white chocolate, toasted marshmallow, cinnamon and different toppings that were included in the set.
Original Chocolate Flavor Mix
Although I have had many cups of hot chocolate in my life, I wanted to try their original flavor. I was impressed with the amount of flavor it had. It had a good balance of sweetness without being too sugary or overpowering. It was as thick and rich as a melted hot chocolate bar. This flavor was a creamy, chocolately creation. It was thick yet smooth. I give the classic flavor a 10/10.
Hazelnut Mix
I went into drinking the Hazelnut Mix excited because I like hazelnut mochas. I was, however, disappointed. It did not taste bad, or like hazelnut– it tasted like a typical hot chocolate. The biggest issue was the smell. It unpleasantly smelled like green tea. Overall, it was watery even without a lot of water in the mixture. I give it a 6/10.
White Chocolate Mix
Likewise, with hazelnut, I enjoy white chocolate mochas, so I went into trying this mix with high hopes. Unlike the previous mix, the white chocolate tasted like what it was supposed to. The first sip tasted like heaven. It was rich with flavor and smelled like hot chocolate. It wasn’t as watered down as hazelnut, making it more enjoyable, but it isn’t a flavor I would drink on a regular basis. I give the white chocolate mix a 9/10.
Toasted Marshmallow Mix
Although I am not typically a fan of marshmallows, I really enjoyed the toasted marshmallow mix. It smelled as if I were at a campfire. It tasted like melted marshmallows put into hot chocolate. This mix was not watered down in the slightest and was full of flavor. I decided to make this hot chocolate mix with milk, and it was the way to go. The milk brought out the flavor of toasted marshmallows and made the hot chocolate even more delicious. I give this flavor a 10/10
Cinnamon Mix
The next flavor I tried was cinnamon. The cinnamon was overpowering, and I couldn’t taste any chocolate. This mix was the only one that tasted artificial. It had a very harsh spice with a strong smell that made it impossible to drink it. Due to the off ratio and strong smell, I would never try cinnamon hot chocolate again. I give the mix a 3/10.
Marshmallow & Crushed Candy Cane, Mini Candy Cane, and Chocolate Drops
When I purchased the set, I did not realize that these three packets were not actual flavors. They are toppings for you to put in your other flavors. When I went to open the packets to make those flavors, I was disappointed because I didn’t know that they weren’t actual hot chocolate. Even though I was let down, I made the most out of it and added the toppings to different flavors. Overall, they made my hot chocolate more enjoyable.
For the most part, I was satisfied with the different flavors. If given the opportunity, I would recommend trying a hot chocolate with a toasted marshmallow or a white chocolate flavoring. Although I love regular hot chocolate, trying different flavors was a nice change. I rate this set a 7/10 due to some disappointments, but also some excitement.
