The 2026 Super Bowl is set on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. This year’s matchup is set between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. A rematch from Super Bowl 2015, where the Patriots won 28-24. After watching the Seahawks compete this season, I believe they will be the team to take home the win and the Lombardi Trophy.

One of Seattle’s biggest advantages going into the Super Bowl is their strong defense. Throughout the season, Seattle has consistently dominated opposing teams, making it challenging for opponents to score. They even went so far as to clinch their conference and division. The Seahawks defense has allowed fewer than 18 points per game on average. Additionally, they allowed 292 points over the season — the fewest in the entire NFL. The Seahawks finished their season with 47 total sacks and 18 interceptions. Seattle’s statistical dominance is a game-changer, as it disrupts opponent possessions and changes field position constantly. Their defense has truly built a path for their offense to score with ease. ​

Elevating their overall defense are the strong defensive players, such as DeMarcus Lawrence and Leonard Williams, who pressure the quarterback and create opportunities for the offense to take over. Lawrence is one of Seattle’s top edge rushers, giving him the ability to consistently sack and pressure opposing quarterbacks. Williams is on the inside defensive line, bringing pressure to the quarterbacks in the pocket. Additionally, Uchenna Nwosu, Bryon Murphy ll and Leonard Williams all collectively had seven sacks for the season. These players bring the defense to the strength it’s at now. ​

Regarding the offense, the Seahawks have been quick and effective in making decisions in the game. Seattle spreads the ball out through their whole team, allowing their offense to collectively work together. Their offense had 5,973 yards throughout the season, which is one of the highest in the NFL. They have also scored 51 touchdowns and have an average of 28.4 points per game. Collectively, the Seahawks have 1,563 rushing yards total and 4,063 receiving yards. Jaxon Smith-Nijba led the team with 1,793 yards, and among leading his team, he also had the most total receiving yards in the whole NFL. ​

Having a strong quarterback is one of the most important parts of a strong team. Sam Darnold, a leader on the Seahawks and a strong contender to win the Super Bowl for Seattle, has 4,063 total passing yards and thrown 18 touchdown passes. Darnold has a high completion rate of 67%, making him efficient in completing long passes down the field. Darnold’s high success rates gives Seattle confidence moving into the Super Bowl, showing they can successfully move the ball. ​

As the 2025-2026 NFL season comes to a close, it has become clear that the New England Patriots have emerged as a strong team, having completely turned their performance around from the 2024-2025 season, when their record was 4-13. New England has a stellar quarterback on their team, Drake Maye, who has finished as a finalist for the MVP award. Drake Maye has led the NFL in passer rating (113.5) and completion percentage (72%). New England’s defense has also performed well throughout the postseason, as it forced eight turnovers in three games. Yet the Patriots lack some necessary skills to be able to take home the win this year. For starters, their offensive line struggles, as they allowed 15 sacks through the playoffs. The main issue the Patriots face is their overall offensive aspects. One player cannot lead the offense, as Maye is incapable of being able to throw the ball to himself to score. While the Patriots have Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte, they don’t compare to record setter Jaxon Smith-Nijba. Without a reliable star receiver for the quarterback to connect with, the Patriots could fall short of winning.

Seattle has earned their spot in the Super Bowl. They finished 14-3 in the regular season and went into the playoffs with a “bye” week. Many Seattle fans view this game not just as the Super Bowl, but as a redemption game. After losing a close game to the Patriots in 2015, the Seahawks are back stronger and better. They have every tool they need to win Super Bowl LX.
