Indoor track is well underway, and the Solon Indoor Track team has already made a strong impression by winning all of their league meets. To get a closer look at how the season is going and what makes the team successful, runner Trevor Gage who runs the 60 meter hurdle, shares his perspective on the team’s performance, strengths and goals.
Q: How would you describe the team’s performance so far?
A: I would describe our team’s performance so far this season as great…we have a spread of success throughout every event.
Q: What strengths have stood out most about this team?
A: Some strengths that I think our team has this season are that, despite multiple practices and meets being canceled due to the cold, no one gets too bummed out, and we continue to work hard.
Q: How has the team grown or improved since the first meet?
A: Since the first meet, I can say for myself and others that people have grown to learn more about their events and how important it is, especially in a sport like this, to not give up.
Q: What has the team chemistry and morale been like this season?
A: The team chemistry this season is somewhat there, but it could definitely be better. It will continue to grow throughout the rest of the season and move into the outdoor season.
Q: What goals is the team working toward for the rest of the indoor season?
A: I feel the main goal everyone is working toward during the indoor season is to improve and grow closer as a team while continuing to build confidence and consistency.
Q: What is the biggest difference when compared to outdoor track?
A: During the outdoor season, we have a lot more runners participating in the sport. During outdoor track we also do a variety of different events when compared to indoor track.
Q: How does the addition of more runners change things?
A: The practices are more diverse in terms of different event groups, the practices are more populated, there are more people to fill the events, which compels runners to try harder and motivate themselves more.
With a successful start to the season focused on improvement and teamwork, the Solon indoor track team continues to move in the right direction. Qualifying athletes will run today in the NEOITC All-Star Meet at the Spire Institute.
As the season progresses and athletes gain more experience and confidence, the team looks prepared to build on its success and carry that momentum into the outdoor season.
