“Marty Supreme” was really great and fast paced. “ Marty Supreme” stars Timothee Chalamet as Marty Mauser— a 1950’s pingpong player from New York. Marty has a tennis dream and a hustle that many didn’t believe in . Thethe film follows many high stake table tennis matches and a long tempestuous journey.
Not only that, “Marty Supreme” was able to keep my attention span and truly had a lot of hooking and intriguing moments. The film’s plot is a roller coaster, too. A huge stand out of the film is that Timothee Chalamet’s iniquitous role is sometimes a villain during different scenes, making it extremely hard to root for him. That’s only a small part of what makes this movie interesting and hooking, though. The emotions in “Marty Supreme” feel extremely real. Not only is the emotion tense throughout the movie, but it shows the reality and truth behind chasing a dream.
The pace of the movie and the intimacy of the camera work help to reflect the state of Marty’s mental health during his rise to success. The movie can feel overwhelming at times due to the realness that can be felt during the film. This movie is by no means a traditional sports story tale movie. “Marty Supreme” felt like it was less about sports and more about the things you risk and how you change who you are to be successful. “Marty Supreme” really was a different take on a way to think about the risks and challenges of becoming successful and what it takes to get to the top.
Furthermore the fashion stood out in this film such as professional suits and business wear. The wardrobe from “Marty Supreme” feels extremely lived in and authentic and gives a hustler like feel to the movie almost a “Soprano”esque feel to the fashion of the movie.
The film builds a lot of tension through the story reflecting Marty’s mental health and the challenges he faces. It helps an audience relate to the fact that life has challenges and there is no perfect route. Marty becomes fixated on his success and proving himself to be the best throughout the film, though he doesn’t have much support. What really stood out to me throughout this film and story line is that it didn’t have the typical success story line for most sports films. Marty struggled throughout his success, and it helped to explore his mental challenges throughout the story.
Throughout the film he starts with a strong obsession to be the best he can be, and it only grows stronger to the end of the film. You can see how all these things begin to affect his serious relationships and identity. I was very fond of the acting as they really made this film come to life and helped to express the emotions throughout the film.
Overall, “Marty Supreme” was an emotional film that really brought out a different side of sports films that audiences don’t tend to see and even made me feel uncomfortable at times. The style of acting was powerful and felt extremely realistic, and I would recommend this film to anyone who likes a strong emotional story.
