With playoffs tonight, the Comets are getting ready to make a push. I had the chance to sit down with sophomore Christopher Underwood, a varsity basketball player, to talk about their mindset, chemistry and goals heading into the postseason and what they need to do to make this a long playoff run.
Q: The playoffs are here. What’s the energy like in the locker room right now?
A: The energy is high. Everyone knows this is win-or-go-home time. We’ve been working for this all season, so now it’s about staying focused and trusting what we’ve built together.
Q: What do you think has been the key to the team’s success this season?
A: Team chemistry, for sure. We hang out off the court, we support each other and that shows during games. Nobody cares who scores — we just play our game as a team.
Q: How has your chemistry grown since the start of the season?
A: At the beginning, we were still figuring each other out. Now, I know where my teammates are going to be without even looking. That trust makes everything smoother–defense and discipline. If we defend hard and limit turnovers, we can compete with anyone. It’s about playing our style of basketball.
Q: What would it mean to bring home a playoff championship for Solon?
A: It would mean everything. We’re playing for our school, our families and everyone who supports us. We want to make the community proud.
As the Comets prepare for their playoff matchup against Riverside, Underwood said that this team isn’t just playing basketball, they’re playing for each other.
