Starbucks always comes out with new, exciting drops. Recently Starbucks released loads of new sweet beverages featuring hints of mango and ube, which I have never heard of or tried before, but it seems super interesting, considering ube made the beverages a bright purple.
I tried four different drinks including the new Energy Refreshers and some classic coffees with a twist. I tasted the Iced Ube Coconut Macchiato, Iced Mango Cream Matcha, Mango Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher and Mango Dream Energy Drink.
Though Starbucks released many new beverages this drop, there weren’t many food items. However, we did get a frog cakepop.
Iced Mango Cream Matcha (2/10)
The Iced Mango Cream Matcha was just not a fan favorite for me. These two flavors do not go together in my opinion, because the fruity flavor and milky cold foam colliding was not enjoyable. It was like mixing a summer beverage with a winter one– the two just totally collided. Two totally different drinks layered into one which I wasn’t personally a big fan of.
The Mango Dream Energy Drink (8/10)
The Mango Dream Drink really stood out because it balanced out a multitude of flavors. The sweet peach and strawberry notes help to give off that “summer vibe,” while the subtle taste of milk and vanilla make it a more dessert like beverage. The Mango Dream Drink is not just like another one of Starbucks new refresher releases, it feels like it was well developed and time was taken to see what customers wanted to try.
Iced Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher (5/10)
The Biggest set back for this drink for me was definitely how sweet it was– it is super sugary, almost like candy, and it packs a punch if you don’t typically enjoy very sweet drinks. Starbucks is great in so many ways, one being you can customize these drinks, so try adding a water base instead, or even extra ice to help dilute the sweetness. The sweetness is really a driving factor for my rating on this drink, but it is a pretty beverage and has a vibrant and summery feel to it that just makes you wanna go for a swim.
Iced Ube Coconut Macchiato (4/10)
Until today I had never heard or seen “ube.” I was super intrigued by the color being a bright purple and the new menu came with lots of features of the ube flavor. Though I am not a huge coffee fan, this drink wasn’t too bitter–which I enjoyed. The coconut flavor was really shining through and showing the beverages potential. This flavor appealed to me considering I’m a coconut lover. This drink wasn’t terrible, but it was disappointing considering the unique look.
